Segway Human Transporters
Getting around can be a challenge for many people in a variety of situations. One solution that may work for a wide range of people is the Segway human transporter. As the name implies, this device is used by people to move their body and little else. It is not a car that goes fast and can carry cargo; nor is it human driven like a bicycle. This machine is designed for people to move themselves from one place to another, perhaps not quickly, but faster than walking. Those with health problems especially, whether it is arthritis that makes moving painful or chronic bronchitis that makes breathing difficult, can appreciate a machine that helps you move.
A Segway human transporter might even be useful for someone with a leg injury that needs help getting around while they heal. They are also used for convenience by a number of different groups. Police departments in many cities have begun using them in congested urban areas. Officers can move more quickly than walking (as the arrive more quickly) or driving (cars may become stuck in traffic, while a Segway can weave around stopped cars). They were also included in planning for the 2008 Olympics, as a method of security. Some theme parks offer the devices to customers for their convenience or have them for staff to move around the park quickly. Likewise, some companies that have offices on spread out campuses have begun buying them so employees can travel from building to building efficiently.
