Alex Ko Biography
I’m a 34 year old mechanical engineer in Santa Clara, CA (Silicon Valley), designing machines that make computer chips. I’ve been a mentor for Dean Kamen’s US FIRST robotics competition for 6 years, which led me to purchase an i167 two years ago. Some of you mayknow me for helping to keep SegPolo in the news.
I’m volunteering for this position because I currently run the Bay Area SEG, one of the largest SEGs in the country, and I’ve found it very rewarding. I’d like other groups to share the same success and enjoyment that I’ve had with being part of this SEG. My focus is on the social aspects of a SEG– what I believe is required to keep a SEG going and growing.
As the current appointed Local Group Coordinator for SEG America, I have only been on the executive board for about 3 months. In that time I’ve found that the local groups are struggling to survive with little support and few interested members. My goal as an elected board member would be to determine what SA needs to do to help make the local groups successful–in growing membership and providing useful services to existing members.
